# Back up or delete your Grand account

> Create an encrypted iCloud backup to protect access to your wallet, or permanently delete your account after withdrawing all your funds.

Your Grand wallet is self-custodial — you own your keys and Grand has no access to them. That means a backup is not optional; it is the only way to recover your account if you lose your device. This page explains how to set up an encrypted iCloud backup and, if you ever need it, how to permanently delete your account.

<Warning>
  Grand cannot recover funds, reset wallets, or restore deleted accounts. You are solely responsible for your account security and backup.
</Warning>

## Back up your account

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the backup screen">
    On the Home screen, tap the **Don't Lose Access** button — or go to **Profile > Backup**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter your 6-digit backup code">
    Enter the 6-digit code to encrypt and save your wallet backup to iCloud.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm your backup is saved">
    Once complete, your encrypted backup is stored in your iCloud account. It is accessible only by you and tied to your Apple ID security.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Your iCloud backup is end-to-end encrypted. Grand cannot access or restore it. If you lose your Apple ID credentials, your backup may become inaccessible.
</Note>

### Delete your iCloud backup

If you want to remove your existing backup:

1. Go to **Profile > Backup**.
2. Tap **Delete iCloud Backup**.
3. Approve with your passkey to confirm.

<Warning>
  Deleting your backup without creating a new one means you will have no recovery option if you lose your device. Do not delete your backup unless you fully understand this risk.
</Warning>

## What self-custody means for you

Your Grand account is fully self-custodial. In practice, this means:

* Grand does not store or have access to your private keys
* Grand cannot recover your funds or reset your wallet
* All transactions are authorized only by you, using your passkey

You are fully responsible for:

* Securing your device and your Apple ID
* Maintaining your backup
* Any loss resulting from unauthorized access or lost credentials

This is the trade-off for full ownership and control of your assets.
